Michael Merritt has an expert opinion forged by more than 30 years of oil field experience, regulation and earth science training. As a certified petroleum geologist, he has “hands on” experience and credentials in cartography, geologic research, geologic modeling and interpretation. He produced environmental investigations, acquired and interpreted remote sensing data and analyzed terrain using subsurface methods and energy business management skills. He is an expert interpreter of maps, electric logs, air photos, rocks, seismic and other data. He has a detailed understanding of sedimentary petrology laboratory, chemistry laboratory and oil well drill site laboratory methods and equipment. Mike is an effective communicator. (He is a published technical writer, practiced public speaker and skilled presenter.)

For more than 30 years Mike worked for major oil producers, regulated the industry by working for the OKLAHOMA CORPORATION COMMISSION, worked on scholarly projects or assisted clients with a private sector consulting practice. For example, he served BAROID clients by operating well site laboratories or providing mud logging service. He served SUN Production as a “company man” in charge of well logging and decisions to set casing. He served as a geologist recommending seismic acquisitions he then interpreted and used to create exploration projects drilled by CONOCO. As a public employee serving the State of Oklahoma , he gained administrative experience implementing federally mandated rules designed to prevent pollution. Mike's scholarship includes:
